August 6 - Is That All We Think About?

Pick up mailers,

stamps, current and back issue Journals at Copyworld, looping south under the Bay to

Menlo Park for

U.S. Geological topos of North Lake Tahoe.

Return through

gloomy San Francisco

and

sunny

Marin

to

check the post box and

power-up the tech over a

late lunch

(happy-hour free nachos with drink at Fernando's).

Further

north

to

Sonoma,

it's time

to

walk

South

Petaluma

Boulevard

and

D

Street,

over

the

drawbridge

and

river,

as part of the

cross-California

endeavor.

Circuitously

home to publication-prepare more Symphony No. 2: III (pages 7-8), begin editing the third section of Psalm 22, and do the day's Animal Farm videos:

June 20 - Climbing

Leave for Lisa Scola Prosek's in what seems (with the late schedule of late) the middle of the night, but it's mid-morning, and by arrival, close to noon, for the annual San Francisco Composers Chamber Orchestra retreat with

Erling Wold,

Lisa, and

Martha Stoddard. There's time thereafter to sneak down to

Half Moon Bay's

Redondo Beach

(evidently a favorite)

to

video

Songs on Crane: V. The Heart (In the Desert)

In the desert
I saw a creature, naked, bestial,
Who, squatting upon the ground,
Held his heart in his hands,
And ate of it.
I said, "Is it good, friend?"
"It is bitter - bitter," . . .
"But I like it
Because it is bitter,
And because it is my heart."

Return

to

the final performance of Fresh Voices: Program B (a pleasure once again to hear Aldan Jenks's Letter from Linda, Robert Denham's Sutter Creek [enriched by new visuals, which the dedicated Wayne Wong had requested], David Garner's Medea Alone, and Jeff Myers's The Hunger Art), and finally home, lamentably laden with a tombstone set from a negligent party, alas. No matter. Directors Harriet, Meghan, and I soldier on, and upon return edit and post more

Waiting for Godot, including XXIX. His Hat! and incorporate the first movement of Magnificat into Vespers.

May 29 - Echoing Across the Canyons

Head down to Half Moon Bay's Redondo Beach to video Psalm 6: 1-5.

Before that, as Harriet heads out the door for rehearsals, compose pages 15-16 of Vespers: X. Psalm 147 - Lauda Jerusalem; and off on this suddenly warm/clear/glorious feels-like-first-day-of-summer to Berkeley rehearsal of

Job: A Masque, at Chamber Arts with Marty Stoddard, Keisuke Nakagoshi, Marilyn Pratt (Job), Heather Klein (Elihu), Kate Bautch (Job's Wife), Nanette McGuiness (God / Bildad the Shuhite), and

Sarita Cannon (Eliphaz the Temanite), in such scenes as "We Were Plowing" and

"Who Are You, Job?"

While Harriet rehearses Sutter Creek, head to the back room to video

The Twelve Fingers: II. Song.

After lunch with H at a Rockridge gormet burger joint (outdoors with non-run-of-the-mill classical background selections), make the jump south of San Francisco

via

Pacifica,

Devil's

Slide,

Gray Whale

Cove,

Montara and

Miramar Beaches

to

Redondo

Cliffs

for

video

of

Psalm

6:

1-5.

Following

this,

back

north -- calling Crystal to wish her a Happy Birthday (she and Christina are moving back to Marin within a week!) and to make arrangements to get together upon their return --

for another Job rehearsal, now with the ensemble, then home through Marin, to edit and post above videos on YouTube.
