June 25 - Stages

After the ordeal of finishing the taxes, printing out copies (grateful to have replaced the cartridge 5 minutes before the office supply store closed the day previously), and sending off (turns out the local UPS doubles as a postoffice -- yes! -- thanks to Harriet's advice) -- H and I deliver to Fairfield's Missouri Street Theatre the

errant cemetary pices for those not responsible enough to do it themselves.

Following

this,

we

zip back through that burg to our town,

putting the next Magnificat item (the fifth) into place in the Vespers, and editing and beginning to post

Antigone: XI. TRIO - "What Is This" through

XV. ARIA - "You Think You Knew".

Oh yes, also in the midst of this, take a break (H staying home to pack) and drive to Marin (with financial greetings at the postbox) and San Francisco (totally fogged in, cold) for the third

Sex and the Bible cast party at David Garner and Crystal Philippi's, with

Kim Anderman,

Maria Mikheyenko, Vicki Holder, and Nanette McGuinness, and Steve Mobia, viewing the latter's video of the last night's misbehaving performance, then

returning to Harriet's arms, etc, in this her last night before the big Washington State trip.

April 3 - Songs, Sex, Shostakovich

Up early again (do we detect a pattern here?) to finish The Song of Solomon: II. I Am the Rose of Sharon (25 pages total), begin III. of same, and publication-prepare page 3 of Psalm 15 "But Who May Abide." Then off to second rehearsal of Job, with Marilyn,

Sarita, Heather, Harriet, and

Keisuke. Now off to dine with Ms. March Page -- more later...

After Connecticut Yankee al frosto (thankful for the outdoor heater), we check the mail at Goat Hall with financial greetings, and head to the Sex and the Bible video party at

Robert's

beautiful

spread with views

north,

northeast,

west, and

down, with

Kim (clearly getting into the spirit of the event),

Maria, Robert,

Crystal (doing an SATB move "You Are So Beautiful"),

Theresa, and Barney.

Hasty retreat through a mad padded elevator and

appointed hall towards the

Civic Center and

Davies

Hall

(arriving precisely at the appointed hour) to review the

San Francico Symphony in Edvard Grieg's Piano Concerto in A Minor (which receives a

partial standing ovation)

and

Dmitri Shostakovich's Symphony No. 8

(which receives another -- latter part of report in 21st-Century Music -- 21st-centurymusic.blogspot.com, 21st-centurymusic.com, and in print -- soon).

Into that good night and (t)hereafter, home.

March 14 - Sex and the Closing

Well, we've done it.

Sex and the Bible: The Opera (Part I) --

smiles all around --

thanks to everyone who made it a success in this premiere run, featuring Theresa, Liz, Marilyn, Nathan, Maria, Nanette, Indre,

Beth, Kim,

Robert,

Crystal, Vicky, and Harriet -- before a very responsive audience including Johns Bilotta and Mcgrew,

Steve Mobia, DVC Music Lit and Theory students, friends and family, and interested others.

That Rite of Sex-and-the-Bible Spring is in the air all day, on these the first hours of Daylight Savings, after the late-night cast party, losing an hour sleep (but thankful for the late-afternoon/early-evening sun), with the last show additionally an interval early at 7pm. The sun shines on a quixotic Wagnerian still life, and it's time to spring to action renting another

van and making the scenic drive past the

English Hills,

Vaca

and

Lagoon

(Central

and

South) Mountains,

Paradise Valley,

Fairfield Water Tank,

Twin Sisters,

Sulfur Springs, American and Jamison Canyons, Sentinel Hill,

Buckhorn Peak,

Long Barn,

Eden,

Suisun Marsh,

Stonewind Canyon,

The Rills,

Mothball Fleet,

over the Benicia Bridge, to the realm of the

Port Costa Hills,

Martinez Refinery Hill, and

Mt. Diablo to

Pleasant Hill.

Beyond Route 24,

through Orinda

Canyon and

Ridge

(including Shakespeare Hill) to

Berkeley, printing up more programs at Copy World,

parking near Fulton and Durant,

walking up Bancroft past

St. Mark's Episcopal and

Trinity United Methodist Churches to

U.C. Berkeley's

Zellerbach Hall,

lingering in the

lobby

over

the

views and

refreshment,

before a presentation by the

Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre, with the

St. Mary's Perceiving the Performing Arts

cadre in attendance.

After SATB set strike, back home to prepare for publication another page each of Psalm 10 and Psalm 110 (respectively page 2 and 16 -- which completes the latter) plus compose third sheet of Vespers: IV. Psalm 112 (Laudate pueri).
