February 2 - Of Earth and Sky
Compose page 18 of Vespers: II. Psalm 109: Dixit Dominus, continue mailing out journals, and
off
towards Diablo Valley College again for Theory, for a dictation on Eliphalet Oram Lyte's Row, Row, Row Your Boat, harmonized medievally in upper perfect 5ths, with Owen on hand for the music majors meeting.
Extended lunch at China Garden, and the evening situation,
with a manageable class size of
50,
from the Berbers in Algeria (c. 10,000 BC, but certainly a much more recent Algerian Dance) to
Central African (c. 1000 BC) Voices (but again, simply a traditional folk selection entitled Makala) -- all simply an excuse to provide a cross-cultural take on the fundamentals of music.
Material for next week includes the F Lydian and Major Scales, Four Textures of Music, and Four World Music Selections:
Iraq - The Passion of 1,001 Nights
China - The Strumming of an Old Man in a Refined State of Intoxication
Indonesia - Bali - Gamelan Gong Kebyar
Turkey (Asia Minor / Greater Greece) - Epitaph of Seikilos
Accompany Owen to local bistro,
with Doug AWOL,
and home to Harriet, beginning the publication-preparation of Psalm 5.
