July 5 - Time for This One to Go Home

Up early to the gold-gray of a marine layer penetrating far inland, so, after a congenial breakfast with John,

blitz up

Cajon

Canyon

past

Mormon

Rocks

to

the

Mojave, and --

after a

petrol stop

in

Pearblossom --

Little Rock

and

Palmdale sail by until the

Western

Mojave

pinches

closed

with the

Liebres

to the

south

and

Tehachapis

northwest.

Connecting back to

I-5

south

of

Gorman,

it's up and down

Tejon Pass into

Frazier

Park

and

Lebec, through the

Castac Valley and then

farther down from the

Fort into the

Grapevine

and

the

Central

Valley.

Post-holiday traffic is heavy, such that a detour west to

Route 33's

oil rigs,

orchards,

crossroads,

prisons,

and

pyramids

almost

makes sense.

North,

west past the outer Diablo Range with the

Mount

shining brightly, there are two more pages of the Symphony No. 2: I (5-6) to do and the edits for Cats, Dogs, and Divas:

VII. Crazy and

VIII. His Needs before falling into a comatose state.

July 4 - Interdependence Panorama

Up strangely early, and continuing a personal parallel Pacific Crest Trail from the

Oak Glen

Conservation Camp

to the

Wildwood /

Little San Gorgonio Canyon

divide, via

the old school house,

an abandoned Wilshire's --

with forlorn cars,

angry dogs, and

blasted burns --

interspersed

with

Riley's

Apple

Farm and

the Beaumont /

Cherry

Valley

Water

District

Cliffs,

by mid-day

mid-easternly protected from the blazing sun,

then

downslope

to

Jose's for albondigas soup and Mexican coffee,

followed by the

rendezvous with

John Browning and family. We continue a celebration of the Fourth over an All-American supper,

discuss the merits of technologies old and new, and later step out to

Black Angus for libations, doing a video for A Walk Through California: San Bernardino (El Torrito) and retiring on schedule with two more pages of Symphony No. 2 prepared (3 and 4).

July 3 - On the Ride

With Frank, Maria, and Bud looking after the place -- out the door towards Southern California on I-5 via

Westley,

Santa Nella,

the Little Panoche Mountains, and

Joaquin Rocks, to that good night of Calimesa, looking forward to seeing John Browning and family tomorrow -- having, before departure, begun to prepare-for-publication Symphony No. 2 ("Tamalpais"): I and editing/posting hot potatoes from Cats, Dogs, and Divas, starting with

XII. Abortion -- and finishing upon retiring in the evening with

XVI. The Proposition.

July 2 - Making Out

21st-Century Music work, filing, finishing the melding of Magnificat into Vespers (movements 11 and 12), editing and posting Cats, Dogs, and Divas: VII. Make a Man a God through

XI. A Father Can Be a Bother on YouTube -- also exchange subscriptions here with Kurt Erickson.

Talk to Erling re planning meeting to work towards making the San Francisco Composers Chamber Orchestra a non-profit, finish up the inordinate amount of time on Facebook, including posting Antigone: VIII. It's Like This, and call Harriet for the daily check-in.

July 1 - Baby Maybe

Start editing the Cats, Dogs, and Divas 2007 performances (posting I. Introduction through

VI. Not), and it looks (and often sounds) good enough that I have to call Harriet twice to congratulate her. Spend an inordinate amount of time on Facebook, posting

Antigone: VII. I Can't Sleep (relatedly appropriate), and touching base with many old friends. More filing and another bike/pool/spa run.
